Events are prompts and activities for your OC to explore and a great way to make a name for yourself. You don’t have to participate in every single Event, so pick and choose what you like.

The Village’s Events include, but are not limited to:

:bulletblue: Quests: fun and simple tasks
:bulletblack: Contests: single-round competitions
:bulletblue: Matches: single-round OCTs
:bulletblack: Collabs: non-competitive events
:bulletblue: Tournaments: multi-round competitions

We also have a General Submissions folder that will accept any miscellaneous works related to the Village, as well as late Event submissions.

Quests will be posted every three months, sorted by seasons. The other Events will rotate and collectively appear a few times each year. Normally Events occur independently of each other, but sometimes special occasions and strange things might occur in the Village that will affect all Event themes. Holidays are a good example, but there’s also no telling when a threat to the Village might appear…

At the end of every three-month period, we plan on having a Village Recap where we feature some of our favorite submissions from the past three months, welcome some newcomer senshi, and honor winners and MVPs of our competitive Events. Winning competitive Events or being featured is likely to earn your senshi special prizes or upgrades. In addition, we are always accepting point donations over at SMVDonationPool, so please help fund our prize pool!

General Submissions

Event Patron: Sailor Oceanea

:bulletblue: General Submissions include all art related to the group and its members that is not specifically created for an Event.

:bulletblack: Fanart of other people’s characters in the Village is always more than welcome. Prize art counts as fanart and should be submitted to this folder as well.

:bulletblue: Fanart of your own characters or canon characters must a) be related to the group or b) show an update in your character’s behavior or design.

:bulletblack: Late entries for Events and prize art for competitive Events also go into this folder.

Quests

Event Patron: Sailor Venia

:bulletblue: Quests are simple prompts which your senshi may partake in. The majority can be in any visual medium; some Comic Quests can only be comics but these are far and few. They’re a great way for you to start participating in the group!

:bulletblack: New batches of Quests will be announced every three months. We will have some Permanent Quests that will always be included in every batch, but there will always be around 5-7 new Quests.

:bulletblue: Permanent Quests currently include:

Entrance Comic Quest: Draw a comic depicting how your senshi arrived at the Village. Only senshi who have completed Entrance Comics will be featured in the Village Recaps as newcomers.

Room Quest: Each senshi is offered an apartment in the Village’s housing complexes that is specifically catered to their needs. Depict your senshi’s living quarters, whether it is this apartment or whether they choose to live elsewhere.

Friend Quest: Depict your senshi befriending another senshi in the Village. How do they meet and how do they become friends?

:bulletblack: You may combine multiple Quests in one deviation.

:bulletblue: Not all Quests are created equally. Occasionally Quest prompts may be separated by senshi alignment or require you to team up with another member for a collaborative entry.

:bulletblack: If you have a team, you are required to include all team members in simple Quests such as "design an outfit for a certain theme". For more complex Quests you may choose to focus on part of the team rather than the whole, but it is generally helpful to include a small writeup explaining how the Quest prompt may affect team members who were not included.

:bulletblue: Completing 10 Quests for one senshi or team earns you the choice of upgrading that senshi or team or adding new senshi or teams. To do so, please note the admins with links to each of your 10 Quests and your request for an upgrade or a new senshi/team. The admins will review the Quests, and if they decide that the quality is sufficient they will approve your request.

Contests

Event Patron: Sailor Lucidia

:bulletblack: Contests can have any theme or medium. It might be “every senshi for themselves”, or you might be allowed to team up with others. The winners might be decided by the admins, or by a panel of judges or audience votes. When it comes to Contests, anything goes.

:bulletblue: The only thing consistent about Contests is that there will only be one round. No semifinals or finals; any competitive Event with more than one round is considered a Tournament.

:bulletblack: Because Contests could be virtually anything, each Contest announcement will explicitly state the following:

    Theme
    Deadline
    Mediums
    Number of entries per competitor
    Number of completed Quests required
    Collabs allowed (Y/N)
    Judging format

If the admins fail to include all of these, we will extend the deadline accordingly.

:bulletblue: If you have a team and if teams are allowed, your Contest entry must include all team members.

:bulletblack: Each Contest will have a prize pool that may include prizes such as fanart, points, upgrades, or the option to create your own Quest for the group. When members place in the Contest (e.g. 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place), they will get to select their choice of prizes from the pool, in the order of how they placed. An example scenario: A prize pool contains 200 points, 2 Custom Quests, 3 works of fanart, and 1 upgrade. Then, 1st place gets to pick 3 prizes, 2nd gets to pick 2 prizes from the remaining prizes, and 3rd picks 1 prize. Not all the prizes may be used. For prize art, the artist will be selected randomly from the members who agreed to donate fanart in order to be fair to all members.

Matches

Event Patron: Sailor Chaska

:bulletblack: Matches are single-round comic battles between the members of SMV. Every so often, a round of Matches will be announced and any member in the group can sign up to participate. After the sign-up period is over, members will be randomly paired up to battle against each other.

:bulletblue: As Matches only consist of one round, you will only have to battle one opponent. There are no semifinals or finals; if we do multiple rounds it would be considered a Tournament. Matches are intended to be much less stressful than a full-fledged OCT, but still give you experience with making comics.

:bulletblack: To battle, each member creates a comic that has both their senshi and their competitor’s senshi interacting with each other in some way. While the name "Match" implies fighting, the characters do NOT necessarily have to fight. As long as there is some story involving the two member’s characters, it counts.

:bulletblue: Only comic entries and animations are permitted as Match entries.

:bulletblack: Your entry must include your opponent, or you automatically forfeit.

:bulletblue: There may be themes to the Matches that you’ll have to incorporate into your comic. Failure to incorporate the themes also results in a forfeit.

:bulletblack: Even if you do not finish your entry by the deadline, we would rather see your incomplete work than a total forfeit. But if you really don’t have anything to submit, please let the admins know.

:bulletblue: After the deadline to submit battles passes, all the Matches will be posted and the group members will comment with their votes on the winner of each Match. (Match participants cannot vote in their own Match, but they can vote on other Matches.) For your vote to count, you must provide constructive critique on every entry in the Match AND explain why you voted for one entry over the other.

:bulletblack: As a tip on how to critique, it might be helpful to separate your feedback into sections for Quality and Entertainment.

Quality: Refers to the overall appearance of the comic. Are there issues with anatomy or perspective you’d like to point out? Are the panels too cluttered or the backgrounds too sparse? Are there any spelling or grammar errors?

Entertainment: Refers to whether or not you’d read the story again. A story can be solid without necessarily being entertaining. Point out any particular panels where you weren’t sure what was going on, or if there were some moments that could have been portrayed better.

:bulletblue: Members may choose to send their votes as a note to the group instead, but please keep your critique as a public comment.

:bulletblack: Members who do not leave constructive critique will not have their votes counted. Members who vote after the voting deadline passes will also not have their votes counted.

:bulletblue: Because there is only one round of battles, we will have multiple winners as opposed to a single winner (unless only two people sign up). The winners of each Match will earn special items or upgrades, as well as a feature in our Village Recap.

:bulletblack: The winning entry will also become part of the SMV canon. This means that if the two competing entries contradicted at any point (such as the match result), then the winning entry would override the other.

:bulletblue: If you have a team, your Match entry must include all team members. If your opponent is a team, you are encouraged to include all team members, but if you choose not to you must explain why the other team members are not present.

:bulletblack: Every senshi who wins a Match will earn prize art. We will have a prize art donation pool for each Match and members are welcome to offer prize art, which will be randomly assigned to each Match winner.

Collabs

Event Patron: Sailor Anathema

:bulletblue: Collabs are non-competitive Events where members will work together as a community. They are not to be confused with collab entries for Quests or other Events, although those are generally also welcome. They can be any theme and format.

:bulletblack: There will usually be a sign-up period before members can start creating content for the Collab.

:bulletblue: As Collabs are not competitions, there will not be any winners. However, everyone who participates in the Collab will at least get a special shoutout in the Village Recap, if not a special item.

Tournaments

Event Patron: Sailor Seraphina

:bulletblack: Tournaments are major competitions that will last multiple rounds. Generally speaking, one or multiple contestants are eliminated every round until one emerges as the Champion.

:bulletblue: Like Contests, Tournaments can be any format, any theme, and accept any medium. Unlike Contests, there is an Audition Round where aspiring contestants must submit an audition entry in a given format. The Tournament contestants will be chosen from the auditions.

:bulletblack: Because Tournaments could be virtually anything, each Tournament announcement will explicitly state the following:

    Theme
    Schedule
    Mediums
    Number of entries per competitor
    Number of completed Quests required
    Collabs allowed (Y/N)
    Judging format

If the admins fail to include all of these, we will extend the deadline accordingly.

:bulletblue: As Tournaments are considered major Events in the Village, their presence will likely affect the themes of Quests as well.

:bulletblack: Tournaments will more often than not have a judging panel to decide the results. The judging panel does not have to be the admins.

:bulletblue: If you have a team and the Tournament allows teams, your Tournament entry must include all team members.

:bulletblack: Each Tournament will have a prize pool that may include prizes such as fanart, points, upgrades, or the option to create your own Quest for the group. When members place in the Tournament (e.g. We are also accepting point donations to SMVDonationPool to fund premium memberships as prizes!
